Out and About
Segway Event
The Segway event will take place on 24th July in Dorset and will last 2-3 hours. Start time still to be announced. The cost is £30 per head, with a minimum of 10 and a maximum of 40 participants. The session starts with a safety briefing, introduction to the Segway and then a personal practice for every participant. The group will then be put into teams for Segway relay racing: In the pit stop the team have to help the rider put on a helmet, high-vis tabard, knee/elbow pads and gloves. The rider then whizzes around the grand prix style course avoiding hitting or knocking any cones and then back into the pit stop to change riders. This is all against the clock and there are time penalties for every cone hit! Greg Smith (greg@smith-maas.com) will need names, and probably a deposit, by the end of April. |

Ride to the Wall 2015
Ride to the Wall sees motorcyclists from all around the UK and Europe (mainly from Belgium) come together to remember the names engraved on the walls of the Armed Forces Memorial. Well, it was a bit of an early start, but well worth it. I met Dean Carpenter (Chippy) at Chieveley Services and we travelled on together to Cherwell Valley Services, where we met up with Godfrey and Chris Potter and Chris Tite and hundreds of other bikers. After a well deserved bacon butty, we left for the long ride up to the National Memorial Arboretum, arriving at 11am together with 7,100 other bikes for the events of the day. There was a performance by the Royal Signals White Helmets music from the Band of the Rifles and a flypast by both a Tiger Moth and a Dakota. After a very moving service and tea and cake (for me), we all made our way home. Thanks to Chippy for organising this and we hope to include this in next year’s diary of events. Erica Body |
Popham Mega Meet Sat/Sun 16/17th Aug 2014
Report by Dean Carpenter Mid august found the section at the Popham Mega Meet with our recruiting gazebo's. The event was over 2 days with both fairly breezy and Sunday morning very damp. This was unlike our spirits which were invigorated by the recruiting of 5 new members and an old member returning to the fold. Thank you to both Bob (in his mini tepee) & George who camped overnight which enabled the gazebo's to remain in situ. Thank you also to Noel, Godders, Colin, Phil, Richard, Greg & Eve for their attendance. A lot of general interest was shown in the bikes our members brought along and there was plenty of discussions on varying topics throughout the two days. We look forward to next year and hopefully some more members assisting (see attached photo) |
Newbury New Year's Day
With the snow melted there was a good turnout for the annual New Year's Day Lunch at the Lock Stock and Barrel in Newbury. 2011 is going to be a busy year starting with the Bring & Buy Sale at Uffington, see diary of events. There is still time to signup for the section trip to Germany as well! Good riding. |
