Southern Section News - March 2015

We have not had any runs yet this year, but have had two winter talks at Rake village hall.  In January, we had a talk from Pete Leach.  We had a really good attendance of nearly fifty members who enjoyed a very good afternoon of entertainment.  Although the talk was ultimately about motorbikes, it was from Pete’s perspective as he drove the back-up van for a Globebusters' trip.  The title was ‘From London to Beijing, Confessions of a Van Man’.  He showed us some great photos, which were accompanied by a very lively talk.

Terry and John gave us our February talk all about their trip to Alaska.  Again a very enjoyable few hours, seeing all the photos and hearing about their exploits.  These winter talks are great fun, with tea, coffee, biscuits and cakes, and lots of socialising; it is a great way to spend a cold winter Sunday afternoon.  You may get your March journal before the end of February and if you do, just a reminder that our third winter talk on 1st March  is at the Perham Down Community Centre, Tidworth. SP11 9LQ.   Dean, aka Chippy, is telling us the story of The Corps of Royal Engineers and the story of his time in the unit.  Please come and support him.

March.  On the 22nd , we have the breakfast meet at Redhill Aerodrome, 10.00hrs to 12.00hrs for breakfast and a chat.  Gail’s walk is on 29th.  Please check the website for details, as this will obviously be affected by the weather.

April.  The National AGM is on the 18th in Harrogate.  Please check out the advert in the journal.  We have a breakfast run to Shoreham Airport on 26th.  Meet up at 10.00hrs for breakfast and a natter.

A quick preview for the beginning of May, and we have our joint section camping weekend again at Sixpenny Handley over the first Bank Holiday, 1st to 4th.  On the same weekend, there is also the Paignton Bike Meet.  There is also Mike’s Dartmoor weekend 8th to 10th, but at the moment this is fully booked.

Now, I have got an appeal.  The Southern Section is going to run the National this year.  It is going to be at Sparsholt College near Winchester and we needs loads of members to help us with the organisation in advance and also over the August bank Holiday weekend.  Chippy is leading the recruitment drive and I will be able to give you an email address for him next month. Please have a think about how you can contribute.   YOUR SECTION NEEDS YOU!!

For those of us who don’t ride much in the winter, now is the time to get the bikes out of hibernation and have some fun.
